On February 9, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) 2023 Distinguished Women In Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Awards was announced, and Professor Chen Chunying, a 1987 alumnus of our school, won the award, as one of the 12 female scientists in the world who won this special reputation. The award recognizes and promotes the work of women chemists worldwide, with 12 women chemists selected on the basis of excellence in basic or applied research, outstanding achievement in teaching or education, and demonstrated leadership in the chemical sciences.

As a neutral and objective scientific organization established in 1919, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) is the world authority on chemical nomenclature and terminology, including the naming of new elements in the periodic table; on standardized methods for measurement; and on atomic weights, and many other critically-evaluated data.

Chen Chunying is a 1987 alumnus of our school. She is a professor from the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She is the chief scientist of the National Key Research Program "Nanotechnology", winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and winner of the "China Top Ten Young Women Scientists Award" in 2014.
