On April 9, the first University of Birmingham - Huazhong University of Science and Technology Joint Online Symposium on Energy Chemistry and Sustainable Catalysis was held. This online symposium is jointly organized by the School of Chemistry, University of Birmingham (UoB), United Kingdom, in partnership with the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), China. It aims to provide an academic platform for scholars and students from both sides to exchange research progress in the field of fundamental chemical science for energy and sustainability.

The online symposium consisted of two sessions: Porous frameworks and crystalline architectures and Energy, catalysis and CO2 conversion. Prof. Giovanni Constantini, Dr Deborah Crawford and Dr Andrew Jupp from UoB and Prof. Bien Tan, Prof. Jingyu Wang and Prof. Deli Wang from HUST gave lectures on these two topics and introduced their research progress in respective fields. Prof. Chengliang Wang from the School of Integrated Circuits, HUST, Prof. Yinhua Zhou from Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, HUST as well as scholars and students from both sides attended the symposium.
Speakers from UoB and HUST
At the end of the symposium, Prof. Neil Champnesss and Prof. Bien Tan gave closing remarks and reached preliminary consensus on mutual academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation in the future. Prof. Bien Tan also expressed warm welcome to UoB faculty and invited them to visit HUST when possible.
This symposium promotes academic exchanges in the field of fundamental chemical science for energy and sustainability between the two universities, and also marks the beginning of further international exchange and cooperation between the two schools in the future.
