On November 23rd, Petra Kienle, Minister of the International Affairs Department from the Philipps-Universität Marburg (PUM) in Germany, and Sandy Halliday, Director of the Office of China Cooperation Affairs of PUM, visited HUST. Chen Jie, Director of Office of International Affairs (OIA), HUST, and Han Jing, Deputy Director of OIA, HUST, met with the delegation.

Chen Jie extended a warm welcome to the PUM delegation and introduced HUST’s latest updates and international cooperation, highlighting the fact that PUM is an important partner for HUST in Germany. She pointed out that PUM and HUST have enjoyed consistent and in-depth cooperation in the medical field for the past 30 years. At present, HUST is building the Junshan International Campus, which will further enhance the potential for collaboration and exchange between the two universities in the future.

Petra Kienle expressed her gratitude for HUST’s warm reception and deeply affirmed the development and achievements of HUST in recent years. She briefly introduced PUM’s superior subjects and student exchange programs, and expressed that in the future, on the basis of the deep cooperation between the two universities’ medical departments, bilateral advantages will be fully utilized to further expand cooperation in more subjects and departments.

In the future, the two sides will focus on promoting winter and summer student exchange programs, expanding the possibility of joint training programs, promoting the establishment of contact between bilateral scholars in various fields, and producing more practical cooperation results.

The delegation also toured the National Precise Gravity Measurement Facility and enjoyed constructive talks with representatives from the School of Physics.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited HUST’s Tongji Medical College (TJMC). Shu Xiaogang, Vice Dean of TJMC, met with the delegates. Relevant representatives from the Office of International Affairs, TJMC, School of Pharmacy, Wuhan Union Hospital, Tongji Hospital and the School of Nursing joined the meeting.

Shu Xiaogang extended a warm welcome to the delegates on behalf of Tongji Medical College and expressed gratitude for their long-term support over cooperation. Petra Kienle also said that she was very happy to revisit Tongji Medical College after four years and collaborate with old friends face to face.

During the meeting, both sides held in-depth exchange on topics such as the renewal of the cooperative agreement, bilateral visits, the resumption and expansion of student exchange programs, the Sino-German Medical Education Alliance’s follow-up work, scientific research communications in the field of proton therapy and short-term exchange visits by young scholars.
