Education is the primary task of the university and the physics program in HUST is always engaged in cultivating talents with core competitiveness. The School of Physics aims to be a cradle for cultivating scientists, which is committed to training high-quality researchers in physics, optoelectronics, laser, information, biology, etc
Undergraduate Degree Program
There are two undergraduate majors in the School of Physics, including Physics and Applied Physics, with over 600 undergraduate students. The school arranges academic staff members for students as academic advisor, who provide all-around guidance for students‟ study, life and career planning.
The objective of this major is to cultivate future’s scientists. We have tailored our curriculum to provide students with a broad and solid foundation of physical theories, enhanced capability of mathematical and logical analyses, and a good skill of hands-on and experimental analyses. Some concentrations, including Theoretical Physics, Plasma Physics, Condensed-Matter & Materials physics, Optics, Astrophysics, Nuclear Educationand Particle Physics, Precision Measurement Physics, are built to provide students a comprehensive understanding on the state of the arts in Physics. The goal is to let students have concrete background knowledge for doing research in the future whatever in frontier science and advanced technology. The School of Physics has an academic thought active, rich teaching experience of teachers and the excellent quality of the party management, experimental techniques and teaching assistants.
Graduate Degree Programs
The School of Physics has a postdoctoral research station in physics. It is a key discipline in Hubei Province. The sub-disciplines of physics that enroll masters and doctoral students are: theoretical physics, particle physics and nuclear physics, optics, atomic and molecular physics, plasma physics, condensed matter physics, radio physics, precision measurement physics, solid geophysics.
The school has two key laboratories of MOE for basic physical quantity measurement and gravity navigation, a national key field observation and research station for gravity and solid tide, and a provincial key laboratory of gravity and quantum physics. The school has many high-level scientific research teams engaged in gravitational physics, precision gravity measurement, atomic, molecular and optical physics (AMO), ultrafast optics, quantum optics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, astrophysics, particle physics, and cosmology. There are many graduate students go abroad to study and do research every year. In addition, they can participate in international academic conferences and lectures. We also invited foreign scholars to visit and give lectures to the school. That provides a broad academic vision and opportunities for international cooperation for the purpose of training high-level talents.
