Affiliated with school of management Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Chinese-Germany Institute for Intellectual Property is mainly engaged in the theoretical and practical research of intellectual property. It also offers enterprises and governmental bureaus with services such as intellectual property strategy planning and decision consultation.

　　Founded on January 25, 2005, Chinese-Germany Institute for Intellectual Property consists of 4 Professors (2 Doctoral supervisors), 2 associate professors, 14 Doctoral candidates and 11 master students. It appoints Prof. Joseph Straus as the honorary institution director. Prof. Joseph Straus is the institution director of Germany Max-Planck-Gesellschaf and is also appointed the honorary Professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Prof, Yu Xiang , director of Chinese-Germany Institute, professor of intellectual property department of management school of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, a doctoral supervisor and Chinese patent attorney, is awarded German Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation.

　　On the basis of current academic research and the cooperation between German counterparts, universities and research organizations, the research institution aims at taking good advantage of the beneficial conditions provided by “continuing funding program” of German Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation so as to deepen the research on theory and application of German and EU intellectual property, widen and strengthen the cooperation relationship between our university and German related research organizations and universities, and invite actively foreign experts to do visiting research and give seminars. Based on that, it also aims at strengthening and broadening the research strength on intellectual property of our university and developing our own characteristics. Meantime, it offers more and better opportunities for youth teachers and post-graduates in related field to study and make research in foreign counties such as Germany.

　　The key members of institute have undertaken some research projects such as the NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) Project “Intellectual Property Protection and Product Market in the International Trade” and provided services as. The project of “Research of Patent Strategy Oriented Enterprise Innovation Mechanism ”,hosted by the institute and cooperated with Wuhan Jianmin Pharmaceutical Group Co.,LTD, is currently undertaking. Members of institute have published a serious of influential academic papers and literatures, which are written in English, German and Chinese, in English, German, Helvetic and Chinese (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) journals.

　　At present, Chinese-Germany Institute for Intellectual Property has established close cooperation relations with intellectual property research institute of Germany Max-Planck-Gesellschaf. It also has connected closely with the Law Department of German University of Munich and Comparative Economic law research institute of Economic and Management Department of Universität der Bundeswehr München. Besides, institute has established friendly relationship with many foreign research and teaching organizations, such as Law School and Copyright Management Research Center of Indiana University , Law Department of Keio University, Innovation Research Center of Chuo University, Innovation Research Center of Hitotsubashi University.
