(Shahid Ullah with Secretary of the Party Committee of HUST, Mr. Lu Gang)
I, Shahid Ullah, belong
to Dir, a beautiful districts located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of
Pakistan. I have completed my doctorate of philosophy in Biochemistry and Molecular biology at School
of Life Science and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology
(HUST), Wuhan, People Republic of China (2013-2016). Indeed it was an honor for
me to study at HUST that ranks among top 10
universities in China, it’s also a great memory and honor for me to have two
times personal meeting with the chairman of HUST and discussed many thing of
common interest, and feel too much glad and proud to here from the chainman
that his best friend and classmate was also a Pakistani in USA. Prior to this, I did my Masters in Biochemistry from Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan
(AWKUM), Pakistan.
I came to China in August,
2013 after securing a Chinese Government Scholarship. I would love to rate this
three years of my stay in China as the most exciting era of my life. Although,
it was quite hard for me at the start due to several issues that I faced such
as language barrier, cultural differences, food habits, and the jet log etc.
However, with the passage of time, I successfully adopted myself to the new
environment. I would like to acknowledge all those who made my life smooth and
study easier. First, I would like to say thanks to my Chinese as well as
Pakistani friends. From academic perspective, I also encountered several
problems during my course work and research. But the way my teachers and
supervisor helped me was phenomenal. I would like to specially thank my
supervisor, Professor Yu Xue, for his kind support,
supervision, guidance that made me competent, and provided me the opportunity
to conduct my PhD research. I have learned a lot from his expertise and without
his guidance and support, it was certainly impossible. I would also like to
extend my gratitude and thanks from the staff members of international student
office at HUST for their selfless guidance, cooperation, and help. Finally, I
would like to extend my respect and words of thanks to the Government of the
People Republic of China, Chinese Government Council and people of China for
their respect and hospitality.
NARRATIVE
REPORT AND OBJECTIVE
I have strong interest and will to pursue scientific research as my
career and for human welfare. To achieve this goal, I think two points are
significant. The first one is professional academic ability that we use to
handle with objective things, and other one is the ability to handle
interpersonal relationship in lab. During my doctoral period, I kept making
effort to promote my capacity to scientific research in term of philosophy,
methodology, knowledge and computational skill. I remained engaged in two
government funded projects mainly focusing on PTM based computational studies. Through
these projects, I have mastered a lot of computational skills, including
collecting and sorting experimental data, extracting and analyzing pathway of
data and developing database and tool by Perl and Java programing language. My
main contribution to scientific community is developing a comprehensive
phosphorylation site database (dbPAF) containing phosphorylated proteins with
their modification sites in human, mouse, rat, fruit fly, nematode and yeast.
dbPAF, is superior in both the number
of p-sites and proteins in all the
databases of the world.
After the development of dbPAF database. I have further studied circadian
related genes and their relationship with PTMs.
Part of my work has been published and listed below, and the other parts
of my work (three papers) are in preparation. To conduct a research smoothly
and efficiently, we need strong collaboration among researchers with different
academic background and at different levels, especially for highly
interdisciplinary fields. My objective is to find a challenging position in an
Institute where I can utilize my knowledge & skills, to bring about a
positive difference and contribute to the growth of the organization as far as
possible.
