Short-term Chinese Program(SCP)
1.Brief Introduction
Short-term Chinese Program(SCP) aims to introduce and display preliminary Chinese culture and general situation to students through lectures, seminars and activities. Thus, they can experience China in many aspects directly and vividly and consequently get an objective and rich impression of glorious Chinese culture and ever-changing Chinese image.
Since 2010, we have collaborated with universities from France, the UK, America, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Indonesia, Thailand and Mongolia in terms of SCP. Until now, there are more than 1000 international students who have joined SCP.
SCP is extremely suitable for those (above 18 years old) who are interested in China but haven't been to China.
2. Schedule
1) Chinese language learning
As an essential component of the Program, Chinese language learning can’t be more important. Two main courses Elementary Comprehensive Chinese and Chinese Listening and Speaking are offered according to characteristics of Chinese Summer Program: intensive and focusing listening and speaking. Meanwhile, to arouse interests of Program participants, two other supplementary courses Interesting Chinese Characters and Journey across China are also specially offered. Teachers with rich experience of teaching very beginners are available.
2) Lectures on Chinese culture
In order to make Program participants get a better understanding of Chinese culture, some experts are invited to deliver lectures from different angles.
3) Chinese talent show
Some Chinese talent shows are organized to make Program participants appreciate the glamour of Chinese culture directly and get a better understanding of lectures they have received.
A) Making Jiaozi (Chinese dumplings)
B) Writing Chinese characters with Chinese writing brush
C) Making Chinese knot
D) Appreciating Zheng performance (Zheng: a traditional Chinese musical instrument)
E) Learning Taijiquan (Chinese shadowboxing)
F) Learning paper cutting
4) Entertainments and sports activities
Two entertainments and sports activities are specially arranged in order to enrich contents of SCP and promote the mutual understanding between Program participants and Chinese students.
A)Party for Chinese students and Program participants.
B)Football competition for Chinese students and Program participants.
5) Sightseeing in Wuhan
In order to make Program participants experience Wuhan directly and in a comprehensive way, a series of sightseeing activities are organized.
Program participants will visit:
A) Yellow Crane Tower and Hubuxiang Lane
B) Yangtze River, Hankou Beach and Jianghanlu Pedestrian Street
C) Guiyuan Temple
D) Hubei Provincial Museum
E) Hubei Museum of Art
F) Wuhan Botanical Garden
G) Huagong Hi-tech Garden
H) Wuhan National Opto Lab
I) East Lake
6) Sightseeing outside Wuhan
In order to make Program participants enjoy China’s beautiful scenery and rich cultural heritage, Mt. Wudang and Three Gorges are recommended to Program participants. This item is optional and the sightseeing fee is not included in the tuition fee.
7) Seminar
A seminar is organized near the end of SCP. The theme of the seminar is My impression of China and It contains six topics. Program participants talk about their experience which they have got in the past six weeks.
Meanwhile, we do a survey among Program participants by handing out questionnaire and asking for their opinions and suggestions about SCP.
Besides, we encourage Program participants to spend 1 day talking with local residents of Wuhan and make a PPT presentation in terms of a topic in which they are interested.
8) Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony
Opening Ceremony of SCP and Closing Ceremony of HCSP are arranged at the beginning and end of the Summer Program.
Certificate of Completion will be granted to Program participants in the Closing Ceremony.
Notes:
The 8 parts mentioned above are fundamental components of SCP, some adjustments could be made to meet needs of partner universities.
