From April to May 2021, Professor FrancescoIannuzzo from Aalborg University, Denmark, was invited to give a one-month high-level course for electrical engineering students of Huazhong University and Zhejiang University. The course focuses on the reliability improvement and evaluation in silicon and WBG power components. This is the third time that Professor Iannuzzo has opened classes for HUST students and the first time for SEEE to form a joint class with Zhejiang University. Due to the epidemic, this year’s courses are still being held online, and the real-time attendances hit a peak of nearly 300, attracting widespread attention.

The course is divided into five topics. There are: Recap on Silicon and WBG Power Components, Gate Driving Methods for Enhancing Reliability of Power Converters, PSpice exercise session: Miller Plateau voltage and losses calculation, Fault Detection and Protection Methods for Silicon IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs, and Power Cycling Operating Principles and Standards.

Each topic of the course is closely connected. Around the key word "reliability", relevant knowledge is introduced to students from shallow to deep. At the same time, to better help students understand the knowledge points, Professor Iannuzzo led the students to use the simulation software PSpice to simulate some phenomena. In addition, Iannuzzo also patiently answered questions for undergraduates; after class, he provided supplementary information to what they have not learned. The professor's conscientious teaching attitude and the teaching method of combining theory with practice have been unanimously recognized and praised by students.

Aalborg University (AAU) is in Aalborg, the fourth largest city in Denmark. Founded in 1974, AAU is a comprehensive public university which offers challenging educations, dynamic research and unique possibilities for innovation. It is always ranked among the top European universities, and its power electronics related majors are among the best ones in the world. Francesco Lannuzzo is full professor of ReliablePower electronics at the Aalborg University, Denmark, where he is also part of CORPE (Center of Reliable Power Electronics). His research interests are in the field of reliability of power devices, including mission-profile based life estimation, condition monitoring, power device failure modelling and testing of power modules up to MW-scale under extreme conditions. He is author or co-author of more than 240 publications on journals and international conferences, three book chapters and four patents. Prof. Iannuzzo currently serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JESTPE), Open Journal of Power Electronics, EPE Journal, and Elsevier Microelectronics Reliability. He is vice-chair of the IAS Power Electronic Devices and Components Committee. In 2018 he was the general chair of the 29th ESREF, the first European conference on the reliability of electronics, and has been recently appointed general chair for the ECCE-Europe conference in 2023.
