·Personal Information
Yu Zhang is now a Professor of Electrical Engineering in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). He received the M.S. degree of Power Electronics and Motor Drive and Ph.D. degree of Electrical Engineering from HUST in 1995 and 2005, respectively. He had been working in the Chinese Telecommunication Company from 1995 to 2002 as a power supply engineer. He had been a lecturer in HUST from 2006 and was promoted to associate professor and professor in 2007 and 2016, respectively. During the last 20 years, he teaches the course of Power Electronics for undergraduates and his research works focus on the modular power electronics systems, such as the modular uninterruptable power supply (UPS) systems and modular renewable energy systems. He had been a leader of advance power supply research center sponsored by the enterprise. He had undertaken several research projects sponsored by the industrial enterprises and two national natural science foundations of China. In 2004, He developed a product of 1.5 MVA modular UPS system through the parallel operation of five 300 kW UPS modules, which won the Technology Achievement Awards from the Government of Guangdong Province. In 2007, He developed a product of 200 kVA modular hot-swap UPS system with the parallel operation of 20 kVA UPS modules, which won the Technology Achievement Awards from the Government of Guangdong Province in 2011. In 2013, the UPS product ‘Efficient Multi-Standard Modular UPS’ was awarded the silver medal by the 41st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. In 2009, He developed a 300 kVA modular PV grid-tied system, which won the 2016 China Patent Excellence Award. In 2016, he was elected by the Wuhan Yellow Crane Talents (Science) Program. In recent years, his research interests include the high power-density converters and their modular series-parallel power systems, such as the power electronics transformers. For last 20 years, he achieved 16 patents and published more than 70 academic papers. He is now an IEEE senior member and a member of the Power Electronic Systems and Equipment Standard Committee of China.
