Liu Wei received his Bachelor's degree in Communication Engineering from the Department of Electronics and Information Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in June 1999. He obtained his Ph.D. in Communication and Information Systems from the same department in November 2004, and has been working there since then. From September 2009 to March 2011, he was a senior visiting scholar at Florida State University in the United States. He taught the multiple courses in different levels, including "Computer Network" (bachelor course), "Computer Fundamentals and Programming (C)" (bachelor course), "Internet Applications" (graduate course in English), and "Scientific Writing" (graduate course in English). He has received two first-prize awards for teaching achievements in higher education in Hubei Province. His main research interests include multimedia networks, intelligent information processing, and big data in education. He has published 100+ research papers, and received best paper awards at conferences such as IEEE WCNC 2019, IEEE ICNSC 2011, and IEEE WCNC 2007.
