Research Highlights
Cell signaling and biophysics of cancer matastasis
Ø Identifying that nuclear SIPA1 interacts with the integrin β1 promoter and activate its transcription; and the phosphorylation of FAK, Akt and MMP9 level were decreased upon SIPA1 knockdown. Moreover, upregulation of SIPA1 via promoter hypomethylation enhances EMT process in breast cancer cells.
Ø Finding that that high expression of SIPA1 led to a higher relapse rate and worse prognosis among breast cancer patients, and was crucial for breast cancer cells to maintaining the cancer stem cell features. Mechanically, SIPA1 strengthens cancer stemness features by increasing SMADs expression.
Ø Identifying a novel EDA missense mutation in a Chinese family with NSH, and the site mutations at the interior may be linked to XLHED, while those at the surface are more likely to be associated with NSH by systematic 3D conformation analysis and RSA calculation (J. Dental Res., 2013). This mutation can impair the interaction with EDAR and downstream NFκB pathway.
