Today, we have all become increasingly aware that the practice of organic chemistry is having a major detrimental impact on the environment. Given the plethora of synthetic methods at our disposal, the challenges for organic synthesis go beyond one of molecular complexity to encompass more convergent, atom/step efficient and sustainable processes. In recognition of the inevitable switch that must take place, we continue to devote most of our research program to developing alternative technologies that address the three key parameters associated with research today in organic synthesis:
(i) Solvents: Harness Non-covalent Interaction for Replacement of Harmful Solvent;
(ii) Starting Materials: Valorize Bio-derived Platform Molecules into Heterocycles;
(iii) Process: Design Tandem Catalysis.
