Yaowen Yu

Yaowen Yu is an Associate Professor at School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China. His research interests include power system operations and optimization, machine learning and big data in power systems, and grid integration of renewable energy. He received the B.S. degree in automation from HUST in 2011, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, USA, in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He was a Senior Application Engineer at ABB (A Fortune 500 Company), San Jose, CA, USA and served as a Technical Lead. He led international teams across US, Poland and India to research, design and develop Market Management System (MMS) projects for multiple national and regional electriciy grids in North America and Europe, and has rich industrial experience. He was an intern at Business Architecture and Technology, ISO New England, Holyoke, MA, USA, in summer 2014.
He is the PI of projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the State Grid Corporation. He has published over 20 papers on top international journals in smart grid and hydrogen energy technologies, such as IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, and International Journal of Hydrogen Energy. His works have been selected to be a best presentation of 2023 2nd International Conference on Power Systems and Electrical Technology, and among the best conference papers in IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meetings in 2013 and 2015. He is a reviewer for multiple journals, including IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems (Certificate of Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing awarded in 2018), International Journal of Hydrogen Energy (since 2023), and IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles (since 2023).
