The 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP14) was held in Wuhan city from November 5th to 13th. The conference was held for the first time in China. 47 students from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology volunteered to ensure the smooth progress of the conference. They helped with welcoming and farewelling guests, guidance consultation, registration and sign-in, venue security, publicity, and reporting.

Check out what they say about this experience.
Huang Zhaohui from Law School
“It is my honor to be able to use what I have learned to contribute to the development of volunteering, and I have also gained more professional knowledge while practicing what I have learned. The volunteer work has allowed me to deepen my understanding of ecological protection policies and get even more passionate about wetland conservation. In my future studies, I will continue to work hard to continue my 'promise' with wetland conservation via my professional expertise."
Cao Yutao from the School of Foreign Languages
At this conference, I volunteered in the security team of the main venue. Since important guests came from different parts of the world, based on my professional knowledge, my teammates and I looked up many polite words related to security checks, which came in handy during the work. This experience not only expanded my expertise, but also brought me closer to other volunteers, and we were able to successfully complete our service as a team.
Qu Hui from the School of Journalism
I volunteered in the contextualization work of the cultural and creative booth and I was praised for my explanation of the ceramic cup. The porcelain white bottle was painted with the famous China's ancient painting "Jianghan Range Rover Map", which attracted the attention and praise of the guests. This inspired me to include environmental protection into my daily life, and more fully incorporate the concept of ecological environmental protection into the details of life. At this conference, I also experienced how communication can be used in daily life, and I hope that I can also contribute to telling China's ecological and environmental protection story in the future.
Zhai Jianhao from the School of Public Administration
One thing that I was most impressed by in this activity was that the young volunteers not only analyzed environmental protection issues from an academic perspective, but also practiced the concept of low-carbon environmental protection in their daily actions. For example, take the initiative to pick up paper scraps on the ground; consciously recycle the food containers after lunch; label their name on water bottles with a marker, discard it until they have finished it, etc. To protect the ecological environment, each of us needs to start with little things.
