Recently, the winners of the 2021 National Undergraduate Student Electronic Design Contest (NUEDC) were announced. HUST won 6 national first prizes and 4 national second prizes, and in Hubei province, 6 first prizes, 4 second prizes, and 5 third prizes.. In addition, 2 HUST teams were recommended to participate in the national online exhibition.
2021 NUEDC welcomed 19,735 teams from 1,117 universities and colleges across the country, with a total of nearly 60,000 students participating. After fierce competition, 322 national first prizes and 790 national second prizes were selected with the respective award-granted rate being only 1.63% and 4%. In the end, 2 out of 10 teams from HUST were recommended to participate in the national online exhibition.
The majority of HUST participants joined the Electrical and Electronic Science & Technology Innovation (STI) Center of Qiming College in their second semester in college, actively seeking progress through competitions within their disciplines. Composed of instructors and teaching assistants, the training guidance group includes teachers from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (SEEE), the School of Electronic Information and Communications (SEIC), as well as postgraduate students and doctoral students with previous competition experience. After half a year of daily practice, selection, and summer high-intensity training, 87 students from the SEEE, the SEIC, the School of Optical and Electronic Information, and other 5 schools were absorbed into the 29 competition teams.
Jointly initiated by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology,NUEDC is held every two years aiming to promote the reform of curriculum relating to Information and Electronics. The competition encourages teachers to cultivate students’ innovative ability and spirit of collaboration, attracting students to actively participate in extracurricular activities concerning science and technology. For this cause, NUEDC continues to provide a platform for outstanding talents to come to the fore.
The STI Center of Qiming College is the earliest provincial science and technology innovation base at HUST. With the joint leadership of the Undergraduate School, Qiming College, Laboratory and Equipment Management Department, Student Affairs Department, Youth League Committee, along with the support of the SEEE, the SEIC, the college has developed a new top-notch talent training model which targets professional teaching and project participation, emphasizes guidance from teachers and training from teaching assistants and cultivates students’ actual strength along with their innovative mind to sharpen them further with competition and entrepreneurship practice.
