Introduction of prize-winning teams
AI-Assisted Diagnostic System for COVID-19 Epidemic
Gold Award in Public Welfare Group
From: School of Electronic Information and Communications
This project was set up to help with epidemic control during the COVID-19 pandemic. After over 20000 hours of intensive research, the team created an AI-assisted diagnostic system which can efficiently and accurately identify cases with lung CT image output within seconds of integrated diagnosis. With the biggest database of COVID-19 CT images in China, the system is currently in service in nearly 100 hospitals nationwide, and has supported dozens of countries in fighting the virus. The team is also closely cooperating with Cambridge University to build a globally shared AI-assisted diagnosis platform for COVID-19.
Green Manufacturing with Diosgenin
Gold Award in Commercial Group
From: School of Life Science and Technology
The team produced a high-quality microorganism with samples taken from Qinling-Daba Mountains, a mountainous area in East China with an altitude of more than 3000m. After more than ten years of hard work, the team initiated the world's leading biological green manufacturing technology of saponin. The ground-breaking achievement has obtained 6 patents. Diosgenin is honored as the “mother of hormones” and “medical gold”. The low-cost green manufacturing technology has brought not only vigor to the industry but also hope to the farmers.
MAOPEA
Gold Award in Growth Group
From: Law School
MAOPEA aims to integrate TCM with modern technology to spread traditional Chinese culture among the younger generation. Their products have gained 155 patents and trademarks. Approved by both clients and investors, MAOPEA has been working with Today convenience stores, the British Museum, Dunhuang Museum and many other institutions to provoke stylish TCM products for the young.
World-Leading Lithium Battery Ultrasonic Detection Imaging System
Silver Award in Originality Group
From: School of Materials Science and Engineering
The team focuses on core technologies in battery research, production and application and has successfully solved problems within development, testing and management sections. Their pioneering work has been applied within the research of Huawei, Tesla, and many other labs in colleges and universities. The project is highly praised by Professor Jeff Dahn, Chief Scientist of Tesla battery technology and “Father of the Ternary Polymer Lithium Battery”.
The team from Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics won the bronze award with their Deep Ultraviolet LED project, which can be widely used in daily sterilization. The World's First Programmable Power Electronic Controller (PPEC) from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering also gained bronze for its unique special power R&D method, which enables China to be totally independent in its production capability.
The competition encourages international cooperation. “SMART FACTORY UPGRADE SERVICE”, a project undertaken by international counterparts, was invited by HUST School of Mechanical Science and Engineering and it won the silver prize. The project is specifically focused on innovation within traditional machine manufacturing to pursue maximum productivity.
