The 2023 World Chinese Language Conference was held in Beijing with the theme of "Chinese for the World, Openness into the Future". Present at the ceremony were Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Chen Jie, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, Chairman of National Language Commission, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. Chen Jianguo, Vice President of HUST, delivered a speech at the conference.

In the session with the theme of Chinese Tests Contributing to the Development of International Service Trade, Chen delivered a speech on HSK service in the field of medicine, sharing the experience of international Chinese language education for medical majors in HUST.

During the conference, Chen also met with the leaders of the University of Canterbury, the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iasi (UMF Iasi) in Romania, and their Chinese and foreign deans of Confucius Institutes. Chen expressed his gratitude to the three universities for their support to the development of Confucius Institutes and their trust in HUST. The leaders of the three universities and the foreign deans of the three Confucius Institutes also conveyed their intention to continually support the development of Confucius Institutes and willingness to strengthen the cooperation and exchange between universities.

About 2,000 Chinese and foreign experts, government officials, representatives of international organizations and heads of international language and cultural institutions attended the conference.

From December 4 to 5, Gabriela Cuciureanu, the foreign dean of Confucius Institute of UMF Iasi in Romania, was invited to visit HUST. During the visit, Gabriela visited Tongji Medical College and discussed the cooperation opportunities such as academic exchanges and bilateral exchanges of teachers and students between the two institutions.
