On October 22nd, the Optics Valley Advanced Medical Equipment Innovation Conference was held at the International Medical Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). Hosted by the People's Government of Hubei Province and jointly organized by HUST and China Instrument and Control Society, the conference focused on the theme of “Integration of medical science and engineering, innovation in medical equipment”. Over 300 individuals from the government, enterprises and other universities took part in the conference. Executive Vice President Wang Wei and Vice President Gao Liang of HUST presided over the opening ceremony.

During the conference, the Institute of Medical Equipment Science and Engineering (IMESE) was unveiled by You Zheng, President of HUST and Xiong Caihua, Dean of IMESE. Besides, the Optics Valley International Medical Science Innovation Center was unveiled by Governor Wang Zhonglin and Academician Zhou Ji.

Shao Xinyu, Executive Vice Governor of Hubei Province, delivered a speech at the conference. He pointed out that medical equipment was the foundation of health service. Hubei Province will continue to focus on developing biomedicine and medical equipment, while pursuing innovation-driven growth.

Gu Jinhui, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Education of the National Health Commission, stressed in his speech that we should advance the progress of medical equipment, improve medical services and strengthen the integration of medicine and engineering.

The conference has established six exhibition zones, featuring technologies such as high-density invasive brain-computer interface, biomedical imaging, intelligent sensors and others. 86 pieces of advanced medical equipment from home and abroad are displayed.

Professor Stefan Hell, a Nobel laureate in Chemistry, along with Academicians Yang Huayong, Dong Jiahong and Wang Shuxin of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as other experts from home and abroad delivered keynote speeches during the conference.

The conference had in-depth discussions about China's advanced medical equipment, as well as its development and future trends. The focus was on the talent chain, innovation chain and industrial chain, with the aim of achieving high-quality development of medical equipment. Moreover, the conference provided an effective platform for universities, hospitals and enterprises to communicate, thereby giving a significant boost to the establishment of a double first-class university.
