On June 11, HUST Women's Basketball Team defeated Beijing Normal University (BNU) by a score of 66-58 in the 25th Chinese University Basketball Association League (CUBAL) Finals, securing their first-ever national championship. HUST has thus become the third university after Peking University and Tsinghua University winning national championships for both the men's and women's basketball.
In the final, HUST initially established its advantages, but BNU quickly closed the score gap. It was a fierce and exciting competition with intense attacks and defenses. The first half of the game ended in a draw.
In the second half, HUST coach Zhai Huan adjusted the tactics, effectively limiting BNU’s performance and allowing HUST to take the lead. In the last moments, when both sides reached the limit of physical strength, the HUST player Chen Yujie scored consecutive goals, which widened the point difference and maintained HUST’s lead. In the end, HUST defeated BNU by a score of 66-58, claiming the national championship.
After the game, HUST coach Zhai Huan, and the players including Huo Juntong, Chen Yujie, and Liu Bei will join the national team for training and preparation for the Olympic Points Race.
