On June 20th and 21st, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) Graduation Ceremony 2023 took place at Optics Valley Gymnasium. Over 13,000 students gathered to celebrate their attainments in HUST and set off on their new journeys.
Present at the ceremony were Li Yuanyuan, Chair of the University Committee, You Zheng, President of HUST, Prof. Wu Tangchun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and other major university leaders, alumni representatives as well as heads of schools and departments.
Vice President Xu Xiaodong announced the decision on the 2023 conferment of bachelor’s degrees and honorary bachelor’s degrees of HUST. Vice President Xie Xiaolin announced the decision on the 2023 conferment of master’s and doctor’s degrees.
Li Yuanyuan, Chair of the University Committee, awarded certificates to the representatives of award-winning graduates.
President You Zheng delivered a commencement speech, encouraging the youth to stick to their aspirations and beliefs, to practice the school motto -- Virtue, Erudition, Truth, Innovation, and to contribute more to Chinese modernization. "You are in an era where science and technology empower development and innovation wins the future. It can be said that you are born at the right time and have a great responsibility!" President You Zheng encouraged the youth to aim high, be down-to-earth, practice skills, hone tenacity, and be a better version of themselves.
Representatives of alumni, teachers, undergraduates and graduate students also delivered speeches and expressed their sincere wishes.
After the graduation ceremony, university leaders and school heads conferred degrees one by one on graduates, turned the tassel, shook hands and took group photos.
