On November 16, the picture exhibition themed on "Rivers, Climate and Human Beings", which is one of the series activities of the 9th Sino-French Environment Month at Wuhan, opened at China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE), HUST. Mr. Jean-Yves Roux, French Consul General in Wuhan, and Prof. Chen Jianguo, Vice President of HUST, attended the event. The event was hosted by Prof. Luo Xiaobing, the Chinese dean of ICARE.
Prof. Chen Jianguo, on behalf of the HUST, expressed his welcome to the Consul General for visiting our university for the first time after assuming office. He pointed out that as the first important collaboration project between the Chinese and European governments in the field of engineering education, ICARE has made important contributions to the cultivation of versatile talents in the field of clean energy and the development of the energy industry of China and Europe over the years. In the future, our university will continue to strengthen practical cooperation with France and look forward to working together to address global environmental and development issues so as to build a "blue planet" with sustainable development.
Mr. Jean-Yves Roux elaborated on the Sino-French Environment Month and the picture exhibition. He pointed out that the event aims to publicize the achievements that China and France have made in environmental protection. To address the energy crisis and environmental challenges, we need to join hands with all parties.
Later, a symposium on exchanges and cooperation was held. Participants from both parties agreed to continue the existing cooperation, carry forward the tradition of friendly cooperation between China and France, uphold the principle of openness and inclusiveness, and mutual benefit, further expand areas for cooperation, and make a greater contribution to improving the quality of higher education and global influence of China and France with concrete actions.
In the following keynote lecture, Associate Professor Sun Huaiwei of the School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering delivered a speech titled "Introduction to Hydrologic Cycle and Evaporation" and shared his latest research findings.
On the 17th, teachers and students of ICARE visited the Sino-French Water Company to learn about water management technologies and the industrial sewage treatment process.
It is reported that the Sino-French Environment Month, founded in 2014, is the only interdisciplinary activity festival around environmental issues that is held in quite a few cities in China by a foreign embassy and five consulates in China. It aims to raise public awareness of environmental protection to the greatest extent and strengthen cooperation between China and France on environmental issues. The theme of this year’s Sino-French Environment Month is "Blue Planet", focusing on the protection of rivers, wetlands, oceans and coastal areas.
