From November 19th to 20th, the 8th East Lake Forum on Global Governance, sponsored by the Institute of State Governance of HUST and the National Governance Collaborative Innovation Center of Hubei Province was held in HUST both online and offline. The theme of this forum was International Justice and Global Governance.
Xu Xiaodong, Vice President of HUST, Gao Tianqiong, Director of the Lecturer Team of Hubei Province, and Ouyang Kang, President of the Institute of State Governance of HUST attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
Xu expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the guests and wished the meeting a great success. He said that, with the world undergoing unprecedented changes, how to efficiently promote the development of a fair and just global governance system to actively defend global justice, maintain world peace and development and build a community with a common future for mankind has become a critical issue to deal with at present. The forum is of practical and academic importance for focusing on the risks and challenges of global governance and addressing current prominent issues.
Gao said that the focus of the forum on “International Justice and Global Governance” reflected the specialists’ and scholars’ intense interest in this important topic and their genuine concerns for the future of the world and humanity. It also revealed the aim of the establishment of the Institute of State Governance of HUST. He hopes that this forum will play an important role in telling China’s stories positively, promoting global governance, and addressing the global changes unseen in a century.
Ouyang Kang said that the philosophical interpretation of justice is a contentious issue and in the current situation, global justice has become more prominent. In the context of the 20th CPC National Congress, he believes it is of great value for this forum to focus on international justice and global governance from a worldwide perspective.
This international forum is of great realistic significance in light of profound global changes and the pandemic, interwoven geopolitical conflicts and superpower competitions, countercurrent economic globalization, and severe challenges in the global governance system. The forum included one keynote report, three conference reports, and one youth forum. 57 experts and 15 young scholars from home and abroad spoke at the forum.
During the keynote speech session on the morning of the 19th, 10 scholars from home and abroad exchanged views on issues including exploring the path for the reform of the global governance system and the theory and practice of international justice in China.
Speeches delivered during the forum covered a wide range of topics on international justice, providing solutions to address global issues from the perspectives and methods of scholars.
Thousands of people attended the forum both online and offline, including more than 70 specialists and scholars from universities and research institutes at home and abroad.
