Chang Yani, a 2020 undergraduate at the School of Physical Education of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, won the women’s 3m springboard final with 363.75 points, on the last competition day of the FINA Diving World Cup 2022 in Berlin, Germany on Sunday.
In the preliminary, Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen finished first and second respectively. In the final, World Championships bronze medalist Chang defeated the current world champion Chen. Chang led every round to defeat her teammate by 16.8 points.
In last year’s World Cup, Chang won the bronze medal despite suffering an injury in the preliminary, while Chen won the gold medal. The Hubei girl, HUST student finally breakthrough, and won her first single gold medal at the world competition with excellent, stable performance. In addition, Chang and Chen have successfully defended their title in the women’s 3m synchronized final.
At this World Cup, the diving national team assembled its key lineup of the World Championship China and swept 8 diving gold medals. It is clear that China's "dream team" for the Paris Olympics has already taken shape, this trip is not only a test but also a training. Yin Jinbo, director of the Hubei Provincial Swimming and Diving Center, said, “From the World Championships to the World Cup, the athletes have been on top form and their performance has become more and more stable.
