Online conference held by HUST and SPBU

On April 1, an online conference was held by the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and St Petersburg University (SPBU). During the meeting, the two sides reviewed their collaboration achievements in the past ten years, made arrangements, and set expectations for future cooperation, kick-starting the Academic Exchange Month between the two universities. Chen Jianguo, Vice-President of HUST, Valeriya Malomuzh, Vice-President of SPBU, representatives from the Office of International Affairs (OIA), and related departments of the two universities attended the opening ceremony.

Speech by Vice-President Chen Jianguo, HUST

In his speech, Chen Jianguo said that HUST ranks among the fastest-growing universities over the past 70 years in China, securing a leading role in engineering and medicine, witnessing rapid progress in science, and developing arts in its unique fashion. HUST has committed itself to strengthening international exchanges and cooperation to pursue excellence. It esteems SPBU, a university renowned worldwide, as an essential partner in Russia as both universities concern themselves with resolving major issues faced by humanity. Chen further expressed his hope that HUST and SPBU conduct comprehensive and practical collaboration and set up more exchange activities to enhance mutual understanding and trust.

Speech by Vice-President Valeriya Malomuzh, SPBU

Vice-President Valeriya Malomuzh articulated that the cooperation between HUST and SPBU was established in 2012. In the past decade, scholars from two universities have collaborated in areas including energy, automation, and life sciences, presenting abundant high-level teaching and scientific research achievements. The partnership agreement signed by the two universities also ushered in the exchange of personnel visits and academic cooperation. She further expressed her hope that scholars cherish this opportunity and that this event could insert new momentum into the collaboration of the two universities.

During the later discussion section, Wan Tian from OIA of HUST presented the cooperation achievements in the past ten years and launched the future partnership initiative. Luo Xiaobing, Dean of the School of Energy and Power Engineering, along with representatives from SPBU, Alexei Titov, Vice-Dean of the School of Physics, and Alexander Shchekin, Director of the Department of Statistical Physics, gave presentations respectively, introduing their schools and disciplines, and putting forward suggestions and anticipations for future collaboration.

The opening ceremony was followed by The Symposium on Multiphase and Statistical Physics, co-held by the School of Energy and Power Engineering, HUST, and the School of Physics, SPBU. All six scholars delivered their speeches regarding their fields and disciplines.

HUST-SPBU Academic Exchange Month

HUST-SPBU Academic Exchange Month is a bilateral academic exchange event co-organized by International Affairs Offices from the two universities, with participants from various disciplines and schools. The event aims to provide an exchange platform for scholars and further expand cooperation between the two universities. The six symposiums held througout April, will be focused on energy, philosophy, mathematics, medicine health management, environmental science and engineering, and life science and technology.
