On December 27, the China Institute of Science and Technology Information (hereinafter referred to as CITIC) held an online press conference in Beijing to release the statistical results of various data on China's scientific and technological papers in 2020.
In 2020, the output of high-end papers in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) enjoyed a steady increase. Chinese Excellent S&T papers included 5580 papers of our university, which was ranked 4th among universities nationwide, 1 place higher compared with the previous year. And the number of papers increased by 725. There were 1198 papers included in SCI (Expanded Science Citation Index) journal, ranking HUST in the top 10% and top 4 in their subject influence and country influence respectively. According to SCI statistics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology’s researchers and scholars participated as the first authors in 1444 international co-authored papers, ranking 4th place - one place ahead of the previous year.
In 2020, a total of 6,939 international scientific and technological papers with the first author from HUST (or HUST as the leading institute) were indexed by SCI. This represents an increase of 783 over last year, ranking HUST 5th among Chinese universities. A total number of 38981 papers indexed by SCI were cited 757473 times, from 2011 to 2020, ranking 5th among Chinese universities, one place ahead of 2019.
In 2020, a total of 3098 papers from HUST were indexed by the China Science and Technology Papers and Citation Database (CSTPCD), continuing its 6th ranking nationwide. 4183 scientific and technological papers were indexed by the Engineering Index (Ei), ranking 8th; 533 papers by the Science and Technology Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science (CPCI-S), ranking 8th, 2 places higher than the previous year.
It is worth mentioning that HUST ranks 4th in the list of "High-level International Journal Papers - Universities" released by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC). The top 5 universities are Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tsinghua University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology. In the ranking of "High-level International Journal Papers - Medical Institutions", Tongji Hospital and Union Hospital affiliated to the Tongji Medical College of HUST have achieved good results - tied for second place.
Using scientometric methods, ISTIC has selected papers that are above the average level in the field and those ranked in the top 10% of their disciplines domestically to form the database of Chinese Excellent S&T papers. It is reported that since 1987, ISTIC has been responsible for the statistical analysis of the number and impact of papers published by Chinese scientists at home and abroad. It publishes the trends of Chinese S&T papers every year. On this basis, it has expanded the statistical analysis to the fields of Chinese patents, scientific and technological journals, academic books and so on.
