Yu Peng, an alumnus of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), donated 30 million yuan on September 6 to the university to support the development of education. The donation ceremony took place at Wutongyu Academic Exchange Center.    

Huang Li, vice president of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and chief executive of Wuhan Guide Infrared Co., Ltd., Wu Wengang, alumnus of HUST and chief executive of Wuhan Union Real Estate Co., Ltd., Yu Peng, a standing member of Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, executive vice chairman of China Federation of Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs, chairman of Hubei Provincial Federation of Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs, chairman of Federation of Overseas Hubei Entrepreneurs, vice president of Hubei Federation of Overseas Chinese, and president of Weipeng Group, Shao Xinyu, secretary of the party committee and president of the Alumni Association at HUST, as well as Xu Xiaodong, vice president of HUST and director-general of HUST Education Development Found, attended the ceremony.

Yu Peng stated in the speech that his family had been deeply bonded with HUST. He felt responsible to contribute to the development of his alma mater. Yu hoped that this donation could provide financial incentives for the teaching, research, as well as faculty and student development in areas related to the emerging sectors of strategic importance at HUST, so that HUST could better train talents and commercialize its academic achievements more smoothly.

Liang Xiang, wife of Yu Peng and also an alumna of HUST, said via video conference that she felt extremely proud of this donation, and that she hoped Weipeng Group and HUST could join hands towards a better future.

Shao Xinyu expressed gratitude for Yu’s kind donation which boosts HUST’s development. He stressed that HUST would make good use of the money to facilitate talent training and disciplinary development. HUST will continue to unite with people from all walks of life to pave the way towards an even brighter future.

Xu Xiaodong signed the donation agreement with Yu Peng, and received the check on behalf of HUST.
