Among the list of newly elected Fellows released by the Academy of Social Sciences (ACSS), UK on September 30 is Professor Fu Xiaolan, an alumna of School of Management of HUST and the Founding Director of the Technology and Management Centre for Development (TMCD) at the University of Oxford.

ACSS is a national academic institution made up of academics, practitioners and learned societies in social sciences fields. As the nation's premier independent voice in social sciences, ACSS is committed to strengthening the crucial role that social sciences play in education, government and business. Following an independent peer review procedure, fellows of the ACSS have been widely recognized for their outstanding work, influence in the sector and beyond, and their extensive contributions to serving the public interest through social sciences.

Professor Fu Xiaolan is the Founding Director of the Technology and Management Centre for Development (TMCD) at the University of Oxford. Her research interests include innovation, technology and industrialization; trade, foreign direct investment and economic development, and emerging Asian economies. Her work has changed people’s understanding of the role innovation plays in the promotion of development.

Fu Xiaolan is an alumna of Industrial Management Engineering Class 851, School of Management of HUST, the first tenure professor in social sciences at OxfordUniversity from the Chinese mainland, Founding Director of the TMCD, Professor of Technology and International Development, Governing Body Fellow of Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford; and an expert in technology and international development. In 2015 and 2016, she was personally appointed by the former UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon to the Ten-Member High Level Advisory Group of the UN Technology Facilitation Mechanism (the only representative of the academic world) and a member of the Governing Council of the United Nations Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries.
