2020-2021 welcomes the Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation between China and Russia. Co-organized by HUST and held in Wuhan on November 6th, the China-Russia Technology Matchmaking Conference at the 2020 Hubei International Technology Matchmaking Conference, hosted by the Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province, served to further, deepen and expand scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between Hubei and Russia. Yun Du, deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province, and Ivan B. Kovsh, President of the Laser Association of Russia both attended the event and delivered speeches. Xiaolin Xie, vice president of HUST, also made a speech as the representative of university leaders.

Yun Du pointed out that this activity was an important part of the China-Russia Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation series and an important opportunity for Hubei province to enhance the level of scientific and technological cooperation with Russia. The Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province will take advantage of the China-Russia Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation to accelerate the advancement of international innovation cooperation to create a better environment for science and innovation.

Kovsh said in a video link that Russia and Hubei have cooperated in the laser field for nearly 15 years, achieving remarkable results in joint technology research and development and industrial application. These advancements were also highly praised by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People´s Republic of China. Following the successful collaboration, Russia looks forward to further exchanges and cooperation with China in the laser field.

Xie said that HUST has a long history of cooperation with Russia with the countries mutually benefiting from a high-level of cooperation in laser, precision measurement physics, population health, electrical engineering and other fields. China and Russia both possess huge potential when it comes to scientific and technological innovation, and HUST hopes to conduct more substantial cooperation with more Russian universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises to make greater contributions to the bilateral partnership.

The event itself was conducted in the form of "online & offline" presentations. At the meeting, the two sides conducted road shows for 11 projects in the fields of precision manufacturing, laser processing, medical and health care, environmental protection and new generation information technology, etc. Professor Xiao Zhu's team has been cooperating with Russian scientific research institutions in the field of laser for 15 years, resulting in a strong collaboration that has seen remarkable achievements. Associate Professor Guangzhi Zhu of the team introduced the project for a "new generation industrial laser - pulsed disc laser" at the meeting. This research and development technology has a broad application prospect and market space in the field of laser fine processing.

An important consensus was reached between China and Russia to celebrate the Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation in each other's country from 2020 to 2021. This meeting is one of a series of activities to implement the consensus. HUST will take this opportunity to strengthen scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation with Russian universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises.
