On 11^th June, the unveiling ceremony of HUST-Tencent Intelligent Cloud Storage Technology Joint Research Center was held at the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO). Luo Qingming, Vice President of HUST, and Wang Juhong, Vice President of Tencent, launched the joint research center together.

Luo Qingming and Wang Juhong addressed the ceremony respectively. They highly appreciated the establishment of the joint research center and hoped that it could promote the deep integration of basic research in universities and practical business systems and could further enhance the in-depth cooperation between HUST and Tencent in scientific research and personnel training in fields like cloud storage.

Xiao Zhili, General Manager of Infrastructure Department at Tencent, reviewed the cooperation between HUST and Tencent and looked forward to future cooperation. Prof. Zhou Ke from the WNLO, who is the director of the joint research center, introduced the research orientation of the center and the research results obtained in the previous period.

It is understood that through years of cooperation on cloud storage, HUST and Tencent have achieved breakthroughs in intelligent cache algorithm, small-sample disk failure prediction and intelligent database tunning, with the application of related technologies in Tencent’s cloud storage platform achieving very good results. The joint research center is affiliated to the WNLO at HUST and aims to apply the artificial intelligence technology in the hyperscale cloud storage service system so as to solve the technical problems brought by the increasing scale of the cloud storage service system. The center is expected to conduct in-depth research on distributed storage technology, high-performance storage engine and workload forecasting, and to provide a new generation of technology to settle the problems caused by the rapid growth of massive data.
