On September 8, the 4th China College Students “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Hubei Province Final was held in Hubei University of Technology. Projects from HUST have won good prizes in multiple groups.
Around 100,000 college students signed up in the competition, which covered a wide range of 23,000 projects from colleges and universities in Hubei Province. Among these, there were 21,385 projects in the main track and 116 in the “Youth’s Red Journey of Constructing Dreams” race. The contest adopted a two-level format including preliminaries at the college and university level and provincial finals. After expert review, 116 projects from the whole province were selected for the next-level competition. The main track included four groups: creative group, start-up group, developing-enterprises group and employment and entrepreneurship group.
HUST won 6 gold and 5 silver medals in the gold-medal race this morning. In the afternoon, HUST won 4 gold and 5 silver medals in the qualifying session. To be specific, “The world-leading artificial industrial robots operating system”, ”High-precision artificial wave compensator” and “Henry Waltz: AI energizes manufacturing” won the first three gold medals separately; “Home-made optical chip: breaking into Chinese high-end optical chip market ”, together with the former three gained HUST 4 gold medals. “LT-micro: the world’s first hydraulic suspended micropump for heat dissipation purposes”, “Ultrasound tomography—new vision for early diagnosis and screening of breast cancer”, “Medlink long-distance ultrasonic diagnosis system”, “Modular self-adaptive industrial monitoring AI platform” and “Hives: vehicle-mounted artificial intelligence for Internet cars” won HUST 5 silver medals.
“The world-leading artificial industrial robots operating system” employed many core technologies including robotic 3D vision, force-control based robotic grinding, intelligent capture and deep learning. By using this op-system, users could rapidly develop various robotic applications, apply robots to more fields, improve utilization efficiency and make it more accessible. In 2017, this project was funded 102 million yuan in Series B rounds by Matrix Partners China and was now estimated to be worth 2 billion yuan.
In addition to the main track, a “Youth’s Red Journey of Constructing Dreams” track was added, aiming to encourage college students innovation and entrepreneurship teams to facilitate targeted poverty alleviation policy and rural revitalization strategy. In the final, all participating team members took turns to make 5-minute presentations on the stage and responded to 5-minute questions asked by experts. HUST’s projects “Cultivating tea leaves and mesona based on technology” and “Teas.OS digital tea” both won gold medals in this track.
The project “Cultivating tea leaves and mesona based on technology” employed unique intelligent equipments and precision fermentation technology by combing functional microbes and therefore improved the current Pu’er tea industry, which was low in production. It also utilized tufted-bud induction technology and growth promotion and disease suppression technology to establish a high-yielding planting technology system of high value-added anoectochilus formosanus.
The project “Teas.OS digital tea” used newly-developed tea siftings and device to develop a new healthy cigarette substitute, which would ensure a continuous purchase of tea leaves, thus alleviating tea farmers out of poverty.
