News.hust.edu.cn (Correspondents: Wan Xia, Su Xiaoli) On November 1, 2018, Prof. Li Yuanyuan was announced to be the new president of HUST by Mr.Liu Housheng, the deputy chief of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Prof. Li Yuanyuan, born in Guangdong Province in October 1958, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 1982 Li got his bachelor degree from Hunan University and in 1988 doctor degree in mechanical manufacture from South China University of Technology. Prof. Li Yuanyuan had been the former President of Jilin University since September of 2011.

Wu Daohuai (Member of CPC Leading Group of the Ministry of Education and Chief Commissioner of Supervision) and Wang Ruilian (member of the Standing Committee of CPC Hubei Provincial Committee and the head of the Organization Department of CPC Hubei Provincial Committee) were present and gave speeches in the meeting. Shao Xinyu, secretary of the Party committee of HUST presided over the meeting.

The former President Prof. Ding Lieyun expressed his absolute support for the appointment . He expressed his thank to the trust and support offered by HUSTers home and abroad in the past few years. He was deeply affected by HUST’s campus culture which was characterized in being courageous in competition, capable of conversion and willing to make joint and down-to-earth efforts. Ding Lieyun said the time spent with all people of HUST in overcoming difficulties and marching forward for the development of HUST was most precious and unforgettable for him.

President Prof. Li Yuanyuan also expressed his thanks for the trust of all levels and felt that he was assigned with a great task and an honorable mission. He would carry on the tradition of HUST, do his best in his term to live up to the expectations of all HUSTers.
