News.hust.edu.cn (Correspondent: Ou Ling) The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC) held a press conference in Beijing on November 1 and released various statistical figures about Chinese scientific and technological papers published in 2017. The 2017 figures about HUST, such as the number of international scientific and technological papers (with the first author from HUST or HUST as the leading institute) collected and cited by the Science Citation Index (SCI), have increased. Among the figures, the number of the papers included in the SCI rose to the fourth place among Chinese universities from the fifth place in 2016.
In 2017, the SCI included 4,702 scientific and technological papers published by HUST, 392 more than that of 2016, increasing by 8%, which improved our ranking among Chinese universities from fifth in 2016 to fourth; the Engineering Index (EI) included 2,764 scientific and technological papers produced by HUST, which made us rank ninth among Chinese universities; and the Conference Proceedings Citation Index-Science (CPCI-S) included 943 papers published by our university and we ranked 11th among Chinese universities.
The citation of a paper after its publication reflects its academic influence. According to the statistics of the SCI database, a total number of 29,925 scientific and technological papers produced by our university were cited for 350,544 times from 2008 to 2018 (by October 2018), increasing by 3,386 papers/87,000 times over the previous year. The number of citations increased dramatically, and our university continued to rank seventh among Chinese universities, the same as the previous year. According to the statistics in the SCI database, our university had 602 papers published in the top 10 journals (measured by impact factor) in various SCI disciplines, continuing to rank fifth among Chinese universities, the same as the previous year; the total number of papers produced by our university’s scientific and technological workers (first author) in collaboration with authors from other countries is 1,063, increasing by 99 over the previous year, ranking sixth among Chinese universities.
It is reported that since 1987, the ISTIC has been conducting statistical analysis of the number and influence of papers produced by Chinese scientists and technicians at home and abroad and publicizing the status and trend of the publication of Chinese scientific and technological papers every year. The ISTIC has also extended its job to the statistical analysis of patents, scientific and technological periodicals, academic books and others in China.
