News.hust.edu.cn To advance the robot research of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), promote discipline integration, and better serve local and national economic construction, HUST issued the Notice on Establishing the HUST Robot Research Institute on February 18, deciding to establish the HUST Robot Research Institute. The institute will be affiliated to the School of Mechanical Science & Engineering (MSE).
With a number of renowned robot experts like Academician Xiong Youlun, Academician Ding Han and Prof. Xiong Caihua, MSE has built a talent team centered on academicians and led by winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, spearheaded some research projects under Program 973, key projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and other national projects, and achieved influential iconic outcomes in the robotics field.
Academician Xiong Youlun's books on robotics were selected as textbooks by HUST, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and other prestigious universities. He has cultivated and influenced generations of robot researchers. Academician Ding Han serves as Head of the Expert Group on NSFC's major research program-"Research on Basic Theories and Key Technologies of Tri-Co Robots". MSE founded the International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications (founding president: Xiong Youlun) and an international academic journal of the same name, and the conference has become a major international conference on robotics. MSE organized and planned China Robot Conference with its first edition taking place at Wuhan East Lake Hotel in 2018, which has become the most influential robotics academic event in China. MSE's robot research team has published influential research papers on international top robotics journals such as Int. J. of Robotics Research, IEEE Trans. on Robotics and Soft Robotics.
The HUST Robot Research Institute will focus on the intelligence of industrial robots, intelligent driving and autonomous system, mannequin and man-machine system and other research fields, carry out international academic exchanges and cooperative researches, and develop new research fields, in an effort to achieve internationally influential research findings in basic theories and key technologies of robots. The institute will become a base of HUST bringing together domestic and foreign high-end robot talents, a robot theory and technology innovation and research base, as well as a high-end robot talent training base.
