In the 2nd National Competition of Comprehensive Public Health Knowledge and Skills for College Students on May 18, the students of the School of Public Health (SPH), HUST won the Grand Award by outstanding performance, which was another good result of SPH after it won the First Award in the competition last year. SPH also claimed three single awards: "Basic Clinical Skills", "Basic Theory of Public Health" and "Case Analysis of Public Health".
The awards of College Health Education Science Popularization Works Competition 2019 were also presented. SPH's two science popularization works, including "Growth Protection Hotline-Focus on Hot Issues of Child Health" and "Family Doctor-Health May be Easily Accessible", both won the Third Award.
Hosted by the Steering Committee on Public Health and Preventive Medicine Teaching under the Ministry of Health, organized by the School of Public Health, Sun Yat-sen University, the School of Public Health, Southern Medical University, the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Guangdong Province Hospital for Occupational Disease Prevention and Treatment, and the Zhuhai Center for Disease Control & Prevention, co-organized by China National Biotec Group Company Limited, the competition aims to help universities solve the problem of "alienation of theory from practice" and improve graduates' capacity for public health service.
The competition was themed "Equal Emphasis on Theory and Practice, Integration of Prevention and Clinic". On April 13, 1,174 students from 60 schools of public health across the country entered the preliminaries of the theory test. The Organizing Committee divided the 60 entering universities into the south, north and central divisions evenly and each division selected the top 10 teams for the final. Schools of public health of 30 universities including Peking University, Fudan University, Guangdong Medical University, HUST, Jilin University, Nanjing Medical University, Shandong University, Sichuan University and Central South University competed in the final on May 18.
