HUST New Research Published in Nucleic Acids Research

Jan 10, 2018

On January 4, 2018, five papers authored by HUST researchers had been published in the “annual Database Issue” of Nucleic Acids Research. It’s reported that the main authors of the papers are from the research group of Big Data of Health (School of Live Science and Engineering). Three of the papers were first authored by HUST researchers named:

“lncRNASNP2: an updated database of functional SNPs and mutations in human and mouse lncRNAs”

“iUUCD 2.0: an update with rich annotations for ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like conjugations“

 “MVP: a microbe–phage interaction database”.

And, two co-authored papers are:

“Database Resources of the BIG Data Center in 2018”

“dbCoRC: a database of core transcriptional regulatory circuitries modeled by H3K27ac ChIP-seq signals”.

In recent years, with the launch of the "Precise Medicine" program, how to effectively integrate vast amounts of biomedical big data with high heterogeneity and high complexity has become a major proposition and challenge in the fields of life science and medicine. Based on the existing research on the mammalian long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and genetic variation relationship, Professor Guo Anyuan’s research group has developed lncRNASNP2 database, including 11 million single nucleotide Polymorphism data from more than 250,000 human’s and mice’ s lncRNA. Also, they integrate functional annotations, cancer mutations, transcriptional expression, disease-related information, structural variation, and miRNA-lncRNA interactions, etc. , which provides an important data source for studying the functions and isomer of lncRNAs.

For eukaryotic ubiquitin and ubiquitin-coupled modification, Professor Xue Yu's research group collects more than 130,000 related regulatory factors in 148 eukaryotes. Also, they construct the iUUCD 2.0 database and integrate the sequences, cancer mutations, mononucleosides acid polymorphism, regulatory elements, protein interactions, tertiary structure, disease-related information, drugs and targets, post-translational modification of proteins, DNA methylation, protein expression and proteome information. The mechanism of ubiquitin conjugation is of great significance. In cooperation with Professor Peer Bork, a famous German bioinformatician, Professor Liu Zhi and Chen Weihua’s two research groups systematically compiled and collected 26,572 pairs of interactions between 18,608 phage groups and 9,245 microbes. Also, they constructed a microbes-phage integration database MVP, which is of great value to future environmental microbiology research.

The “Big Data of Health” research group consists of four processors: Guo Anyuan, Ning Kang, Xue Yu and Chen Weihua. In 2016, they were listed in “advanced academic youth team” of HUST. In 2017, they prepared to establish “Biomedical Information Supercomputer Center” in the Ezhou Institute of Industrial Technology of HUST.
