On November 8th, the Award Ceremony of the World Internet Conference Awards for Pioneering Science and Technology was held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang. The "Research on High Energy Efficiency Mechanism of 5G Mobile Communication System" led by the School of EIC won the award, marking the first time that Huazhong University of Science and Technology has won this award. Dr. Zhong Yi and Prof. Ge Xiaohu from the school were invited to receive the award and present the research achievement.
The award ceremony was hosted by Wu Hequan, Chairman of the Award Review Committee and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. Zhuang Rongwen, Director of the National Internet Information Office of China and Chairman of the World Internet Conference, and Francis Gurry, Vice-chairman of the World Internet Conference, attended the award ceremony to present trophies to the award winners.
The breakthrough achieved by the "Research on High Energy Efficiency Mechanism of 5G Mobile Communication System" in the field of green communication and network has been highly recognized by the industry. The project is jointly applied by Huazhong University of Science and Technology as the lead and Singapore University of Technology and Design. The research focuses on solving 5G energy efficiency problems, especially in addressing challenges such as 5G ultra dense cellular network architecture, base station topology theory, and high energy efficiency and low latency access.
As a leading team in the field of green communications, China International Joint Research Center of Green Communications and Networking has made great achievements in basic research, international standard formulation, product development and application. In October 2015, the research center was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a national-level international science and technology cooperation base. It has established extensive, stable, and long-term cooperation with well-known universities and research institutions in countries such as the UK, Germany, France, the United States, and Australia, enhancing the influence of China in the field of high energy efficiency information and communications.
The award is aimed to reward the most pioneering Internet technology achievements of the year worldwide. The Award Review Committee is composed of nearly 40 well-known experts in China and abroad, and 15 achievements were elected for the award.
