On November 1st, the first lecture of “Information, Communications and Artificial Intelligence Academic Lecture Series” was successfully held. Prof. Pan Zhigeng, Dean of School of Artificial Intelligence (School of Future Technology) of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, was invited to give an online lecture on “From Virtual Reality to Metaverse”.
Prof. Qiu Caiming, Dean of EIC and chair of the lecture, expressed gratitude to Prof. Pan Zhigeng. He pointed out that the disciplines of EIC integrate various fields such as electronics, information, communications and artificial intelligence. Depending on that advantage, EIC is able to lay valid theoretical and engineering foundation for Metaverse research. Coincidentally, it is also the 70th anniversary of HUST. It is of great importance to open this lecture series with the theme of Metaverse.
Prof. Pan Zhigeng first introduced the origin and development of Metaverse research. He mentioned that Metaverse integrates fields like block chain, human-computer interaction techniques, and artificial intelligence. It will produce profound influence on various engineering fields. Nowadays, developed countries are focusing on this field. Metaverse will influence people’s daily life by connecting the physical world with the virtual world.
At the end, Prof. Pan Zhigeng and Prof. Qiu Caiming had a discussion on the major nad discipline development of Metaverse.
The lecture attracted Zhong Zhuliang, Academician of Chinese Science Academy and alumni of EIC, Zheng Xiaojian, Party Secretary of EIC, and over 200 teachers and students.
