Jin Hai is a Chair Professor of computer science and engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in China. Jin received his PhD in computer engineering from HUST in 1994. In 1996, he was awarded a German Academic Exchange Service fellowship to visit the Technical University of Chemnitz in Germany. Jin worked at The University of Hong Kong between 1998 and 2000, and as a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California between 1999 and 2000. He was awarded Excellent Youth Award from the National Science Foundation of China in 2001.

Jin is a Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of CCF, and a life member of the ACM. He has co-authored more than 20 books and published over 900 research papers. His research interests include computer architecture, parallel and distributed computing, big data processing, data storage, and system security.

He won the DAAD exchange scholar scholarship in Germany and engaged in scientific research cooperation on SMI interconnected SMP cluster computers at Chemnitz University in Germany.

He went to the University of Hong Kong to engage in post doctoral research, and from January 1999 to December 2000, he went to the University of Southern California to continue his post doctoral research.

Awards and Honors

Hai Jin is the winner of the Wang Xuan Award of the Chinese Computer Society, the winner of Huo Yingdong's Young Teachers Fund for Colleges and Universities, the guiding teacher of the national outstanding doctoral dissertation winner, one of the leaders of scientific and technological innovation in the national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan", the "first batch of national candidates for the New Century Hundred Thousand Talents Project", one of the top ten outstanding young people in China's software industry, and the winner of the fifth Hubei Youth Science and Technology Award, one of the Sixth Top Ten Outstanding Young People in Hubei Province. He won the "Achievement Award for Returned Overseas Students" jointly issued by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Personnel, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China. He is one of the Top Ten Outstanding Young People in Hubei Province, one of the Top Ten Teachers' Moral Pacesetter in Hubei Province, and the Advanced Worker in Hubei Province. He has once won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, the second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award for two times, the second prize of the National Invention Award for one time, the fourth prize of the National Natural Science Award for one time, the first prize of the Ministry of Education's Science and Technology Progress/Technological Invention Award for three times, the first prize of the Ministry of Education's Natural Science Award for one time, and the first prizes of Hubei Province's Science and Technology Progress/Technological Invention Award for two times.

On November 3, 2021, the project "Basic Theory and Core Method of Cloud Computing for Multi tenant Resource Competition" hosted by Jinhai won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2020.

On May 24, 2022, it won the second prize of "Liang Liangsheng Overseas Chinese Science and Technology Award Fund" of Hubei Overseas Chinese Federation.
