Data Storage Institute (DSI) is an important supporting unit of the national key computer system architecture discipline. DSI's research on information storage technology began in 1974 and has a history of more than 40 years.
Currently, its main research directions include data storage systems, storage security and high availability technology, storage service and cloud storage technology, new storage devices and equipment, green storage, big data management, and media storage and application. There are 38 full-time faculty members, including 15 professors and 19 associate professors, and more than 300 graduate students (doctor and master) in the school.
The institute has an innovation team of "Information Storage System and Technology" initiated by the Ministry of Education and an innovation group of "Big Data Storage System and Technology" sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), including two winners of the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, four part-time and specially-appointed professors from "Changjiang Scholars", one chief scientist of the 973 Program (the National Program on Key Basic Research Project of China ), and two winners of the "New Century Excellent Talents Program" initiated by the Ministry of Education.
The institute has taken the lead in undertaking many important national projects, including projects of the National973 Program, key projects initiated by NSFC, major/key projects of the National863 Program”(Chinese National Programs for High Technology Research and Development ), and other key research and development projects. Moreover, it has won the National Technology Invention Award, the Gold Award of International Technology Invention, and several Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Achievement Awards. In the past five years, it has published more than 300 SCI papers and 200 EI papers, among which more than 100 papers have been published in Class A top-level conferences and first-class journals recommended by China Computer Federation (CCF). Furthermore, it has applied for more than 200 Chinese invention patents, formulated 16 national standards, including nine leading national standards, and taken the lead in completing two sets of standards in the electric industry. In addition, three of its doctoral students have been selected for the Huawei Young Talents Program. It is worth noting that its graduate students have participated in various competitions and won awards many times.
DSI has four national or provincial science and technology platforms, namely, the Information Storage Research Department of Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, the Key Laboratory of Information Storage System of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Center of Data Storage System and Technology of the Ministry of Education, and Hubei Engineering Research Center of Network Storage Technology. In addition, it has established several joint laboratories with Huawei, Hikvision, Inspur, Tencent, Honor, and other critical IT and storage leading Chinese enterprises to carry out industry-oriented cooperative research.
