Institute for Data Engineering (IDE) focuses on big data analysis and cognitive computing, artificial intelligence, deep learning, IoT perception and cloud computing, software engineering, and database management technologies. There are 30 full-time teachers, including 5 professors and 10 associate professors, and more than 100 graduate students are in the school.

In the past five years, the Institute has undertaken or completed key research and development projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, key projects of National Defense Pre-research, the National Natural Science Foundation Key Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation. Hubei Database Engineering Technology Research Center has been established and has made significant achievements in the productization, commercialization, industrialization, and application of DBMS software.
