The year of 2020 is the year for the decisive battle against poverty and a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and also the year to conclude the 13th Five-year Plan. Over the past year, the School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology have made remarkable achievements in school running, scientific research,talent education and social services. The School of Management officially attained AACSB Accreditation
On February 13th, the School of Management was notified by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) that according to the decision of the Initial Accreditation Committee (IAC) and the Board of Directors, the School of Management of HUST has been officially accredited by AACSB International with the validity of five years.
The School of Management of HUST get the eligibility of entering the accreditation process in 2013 and passed the preliminary review in 2015. In Recent years, the School has made great progress in teaching, scientific research and social services through constant improvement. In November of 2019, the School was highly recommonded by the peer review team in the on-site visit. For the time being, it is the first business school in Central China to attain the AACSB international accreditation, marking an important step that the School of Management has taken toward the goal to be an internationally renowned business school.
Faculty and Party members’ of the School of Management active participate in the anti-epidemic battlefront
The epidemic is the order as well as the duty. The Party Committee of the School of Management earnestly studied and implemented the important instruction of President Xi Jinping on the epidemic; according to the work deployment of the Anti-epidemic Headquarter of the University, an leading group of the school’s anti-epidemic work immediately established, with Party Secretary Jin Lingzhi and Dean Wang Zongjun as group leaders. Coordinating the General Administration office and the Party branches of each department, the leading group conveyed common sense of epidemic prevention and lecturing about anti-epidemic policies to faculty, staff members and students, and reported the health condition of faculty, staff members and students to the leadership, so as to effectively safeguard them.
Since Feburary, in line with the requirements of the anti-epidemic leading group of the University, the Party Committee of the School adopted a series of measurements, such as initiating Party members of the faculty to actively participate in the epidemic prevention. At the community duty stations of the University, in the household inspection, grid guarding and donations, the figures of the school pioneers can be seen everywhere.

The Latest UTD Business School Research Rankings: the School of Management of HUST Ranked 9th in Chinese mainland
In the recently issued UTD Top 100 Business School Research Rankings from 2015-2019, the School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology is ranked the 9th in the Chinese mainland and the 208th in the world.
Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects published, subjects of business management and management ranks 1st-2nd and 2nd-5th respectively among domestic universities
Recently, Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in 2020 was officially published. The 2020 ranking covers such five fields as science, engineering, life science, medicine and social science.
Huazhong University of Science and Technology has got 35 subjects in te ranking, of which the subject of business management ranks 1st-2nd and the subject of management takes 2nd-5th position among Chinese mainland universities.
Four “Extra-Excellent” projects and Six “Excellent” projects! The School of Management has achieved good results in the performance evaluation of National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2020
On May 20, 2020, the School of Management received the results of the performance evaluation from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Among the projects submitted to NSFC in 2019, 4 of them were rated as “Extra-Excellent” projects and 6 of them were rated “Excellent” projects in the performance evaluation meeting organized by the Management Science Department of NSFC.
The Research and Practice Team of Poverty Reduction and Development of the School of Management won a collective honor of HUST Youth May Fourth Medal
In the selection of HUST Youth May Fourth Medal in 2020, the Research and Practice Team of Poverty Reduction and Development of the School of Management won a collective honor of HUST Youth May Fourth Medal (3 awards in total). For the time being, the team has stepped into the first group in the field of targeted poverty alleviation and poverty reduction big data analysis, having made outstanding contributions to the targeted poverty alleviation of the country on behalf of HUST.
The Research and Practice Team of Poverty Reduction and Development of the School of Management was established in 2012, led by Professor Chen Pinglu and consisting of three youthful faculty, namely Luo Guang, Zheng Changjun and Qian Ningyu, and over 20 undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D students. Based on the team, the School founded the Research Institute of Poverty Reduction and Development of HUST, which was led by Professor Wang Zongjun, the Dean of the School. Other four professors, Tan Shibin, Hong Shaohua, Wang Zhongxian and Wang Jing were employed as researchers to jointly participate in and guide the research. The research team is committed to providing important theoretical foundation in formulating and evaluating relevant policy on national targeted poverty alleviation, together with conducting research and consultation on poverty alleviation topics.
The Research and Practice Team of Poverty Reduction and Development of the School has made outstanding achievements. Many research reports have been adopted by the Poverty Alleviation Office of the State Council and other departments, and the research results have been translated into a number of national policies. In 2019, two reports of the team were commented by the Party and state leaders, and several reports were commented by provincial and ministerial leaders.
The course Financial Statement Analysis taught by Professor Guo Wei of the School of Management was selected into the first batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses
The Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education (MOE) issued the Notice of the first batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses to regard 3,560 courses as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses, of which there are 717 online first-class courses. The course Financial Statement Analysis taught by Professor Guo Wei of the School of Management of HUST was selected.
AMBA Re-accreditation Conference of School of Management, HUST was successfully held online
From December 8th to 10th, AMBA Re-accreditation Conference of SOM, HUST was held online.
December 8th, meeting with the University President & SOM Leadership Team was held in office 411. On the afternoon of December 9th, the School leader team and directors of MBA and EMBA programs attended the conference. Dean Wang Zongjun report the School’s overall development since the last accreditation to the panel. In the Q&A session, the participants communicated on school-level issues and MBA and EMBA Programs issues including strategic planning, scientific research, faculty development, marketing, case study etc. They also discussed about cross-integration of emerging engineering and business since HUST is a university with obvious advantages in engineering.
On the afternoon of December 10th, the dean and the leadership team received the accreditaion feedbacks from the AMBA panel. The Panel Chair Andrew Lock expressed his congratulations on the progresses the School had achieved in the past five years. Meanwhile the school received recommendations on school strategy, discipline positioning, faculty development, MBA and EMBA curriculum improvement. Finally, Dean Wang Zongjun addressed a thank you speech for the AMBA panel.
An alumnus of School of Management of HUST saved a life at a critical time and help others for a just cause
On May 26, 2020, Geng Zhenyu, director of Nanjingnan Railway Station Police Station and Officer Yao Cheng went to Jiangsu Unicom to commend Wei Yuan for his heroic deeds in Nanjingnan Railway Station and presented a thank-you letter and prize. Director Geng said that the victim's life was hanging by a thread on the day of the crime, and Comrade Wei Yuan, a 2008 alumnus of School of Management of HUST majored in finance, regardless of his personal safety, fought against criminals at the first time and shouted for help and saved the victim’s life.
Congratulations to Zhang Qianfan for being awarded "My Favorite Class Advisor" by HUST in 2019-2020
Zhang Qianfan, professor of the Department of Management Science and Information Management of the School of Management, was awarded the title of “My Favorite Class Advisor” by Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2019-2020. Professor Zhang carefully prepares for the teaching content of each class, engages in teaching by being a model for others, and good at teaching by respecting students.
