On October 19th, HUST held a commendation conference for fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic and a propaganda briefing on the anti-pandemic spirit aiming at commending the advanced collectives and individuals that have stood out in the endeavor against the pandemic, summarizing anti-pandemic experience, and propagating the mighty anti-pandemic spirit. HUST Leadership Shao Xinyu, Zhan Yiqing, Zhou Jianbo, Ma Jianhui, Liang Qian, Xie Zhengxue, and Xie Xiaolin attended the conference. HUST president Li Yuanyuan chaired the conference. Jin Lingzhi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Management, and Li Jianbin, Director of the Production Operation and Logistics Management Department, were present at the meeting.
All the representatives sang the national anthem and observed a moment of silence for the martyrs and compatriots that passed away in the rigorous struggle against the epidemic.
Vice President Liang Qian read out Decision on Commendationto the Advanced Collective and Advanced Individuals in COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control. 50 collectives (teams included) were awarded the "Advanced Collective of COVID-19 pandemic Prevention and Control" while 1001 were awarded the "Advanced Individual of COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control".
In the School of Management, faculty who won advanced individual awards are Liu Qiliang, Li Jianbin and Zhou Yuanyuan; students who won advanced individual awards are: Phil Davis Ernie, Li Haolong, Zhong Yiqi, Zhou Sa Sa, Li Guangwei, Chen Jinpeng, Zhu Yuxin, Luo Shan, Zhang Biao, Xu Ye, Dong Dachuan.
The University Leadership issued the Certificate of Honor to award-winning collectives and individuals.

Shao Xinyu, secretary of the University Party Committee, expressed lofty respect to the commended advanced collectives and individuals, to the medical workers of affiliated hospitals and university hospital that have made instrumental contributions, to the party members and cadres of the second-level units, faculty and students, and community workers. He extended sincere gratitude to all democratic parties and people without party affiliation who have actively participated in the fight against the pandemic; He paid high tribute to global alumni, international friends, and people from all walks of life who have actively offered assistance; and especially expressed heartfelt concerns and grief condolences to the teacher and staffs who have tragically lost their lives in the epidemic.
Shao Xinyu pointed out that in this combat against the pandemic, HUST persisted in the leadership of the party and upheld the party flag flying high on the forefront against the epidemic; boasted the function of underpinning and worked flat out to save lives. HUST gave full play to the advantages of disciplines with science and technology to underpin the hard core encounter with the pandemic; organized meticulous protection network with a strong campus safety barrier; with the idea of nurturing morality and talent as bedrock, advanced the work of education and teaching; went to all lengths to restore normal routine and promote a holistic reform and development. Looking back on the battle against the pandemic, HUST took the fight against the pandemic as the most crucial political mission and the most significant task with resolute endeavour on the forefront of the pandemic, unswervingly safeguarding the lives and health of the people, and staunchly advance pandemic prevention and control as well as HUST’s development as a whole.
Shao Xinyu emphasized that a great strive breeds a great spirit. We must vigorously uphold the great anti-pandemic spirit, stick to the pursuit of the supremacy of life, unit the solidarity of the nation, galvanize the heroic spirit of unselfishness, carry forward the practice character of respecting science, and shoulder the moral responsibility of shared destiny. We must translate the great anti-pandemic spirit formed in this historical examination into a powerful strength to advance the development of our cause, do not slacken to normalize pandemic prevention and control routine, unswervingly adhere to scientific innovation, transform the anti-pandemic spirit into growth impetus, persist in the improvement of risk resolution capabilities, take responsibility with initiative, and make more contribution of Huazhong University of Science and Technology to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
During the propaganda briefing on the anti-pandemic spirit, a host of advanced individuals shared their stories.
In the concluding speech, Li Yuanyuan stressed that in this fight against the pandemic, HUSTers were the vanguard and shouldered the grave responsibilities valiantly. Their actions echos to the national ambition of "The rise and fall of the nation concerns everyone", showcasing the responsibility of "We are in the same boat sharing weal of woe of the nation and the people". He asked HUSTers to model on the commended advanced collectives and individuals, vigorously promote the great anti-pandemic spirit, keep in mind the original mission, adhere to cultivating people with morality, and have the courage to act at the critical moment and make dedication in crisis, and be capable of withstanding the ordeal in instrumental struggle, and with the practical actions of learning, striving to be and catching up with the advanced, we will concentrate an enabling strength to promote the development of the school, building the HUST into a world-class university with Chinese characteristics at an earliest possible date.
At the end of the briefing, faculty and students sang "Ode to the Motherland" together. Everyone waved the five-star red flag in their hands, recollecting the advanced touching deeds in the fight against the pandemic, and became more determined in the resolution and belief of speeding up the construction of a world class university with Chinese characteristics, and making more contributions to the realization of rejuvenating the great Chinese nation.
