(Article by Guo Zheng, a reporter and photo by Feng Jiaxing) On October 16, 2019, Huazhong University of Science and Technology held a lecture," Master Club" on the international disciplines frontiers in the Wutongyu Mingde Lecture Hall. Professor Dietmar Harhoff, academician of the German National Academy of Sciences and the German Academy of Science and Engineering, gave a lecture on "Science-Technology-Innovation: Exploring Opportunities for Cooperation between Germany and China". Professor Yu Xiang, Dean of Sino-European Institute for Intellectual Property of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Director of Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property of the School of Management, and Academician of European Academy of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, presided over the lecture.
With warm applause, Professor Yu Xiang as the speaker solemnly introduced the lecturer, Professor Dietmar Harhoff. He is an Academician of the German National Academy of Sciences, an Academician of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering, a member of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Group of Experts on Innovation Dialogue, and is currently Director of the Max Planck Institute of Innovation and Competition and Honorary Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Dietmar Harhoff reviewed the process and background of the development of scientific research and innovation, and then introduced the relationship between the quality of science and the value of patents in a simple way with profound meaning, analyzing with abundant charts and data analysis. He mentioned that high-quality science is the important basis of high-value patents. Then he introduced the data analysis results of the rapid development of science, technology and innovation in China, further analyzed the present situation of the cooperation between China and Germany, and looks forward to the future prospects and opportunities of the cooperation between China and Germany.
The lecture attracted more than 200 people from both inside and outside the university, including students from many other countries. The audience enthusiastically asked questions of interest to them, and Professor Dietmar Harhoff answered them in detail, which greatly benefited both the faculty and students attended. Professor Dietmar Harhoff's vast knowledge and experience once again won applause.
At the end of the lecture, Professor Yu Xiang summarized the lecture and expressed his sincere thanks to Professor Dietmar Harhoff. Afterwards, all the faculty and students took a group photo.
